FEATURES OF SGC Box Culvert
INTRODUCTION
SGC Box Culverts allow for fast construction of open flow channels using high quality factory cast units with a minimum of wet concrete works. SGC Box Culverts also come with or without Dry Weather Flow (DWF) channels and different box culvert sizes with ease of handling and installation of SGC Precast Box Culverts, construction progress will be less affected by adverse weather and thus reduce construction period and cost.
DESIGN CONSIDERATION
- SGC Box Culverts are designed to the requirements of MS 1293:Part 1:1992
- SGC Box Culverts concrete wall thickness cover to reinforcement : 25mm
- SGC Box Culverts are manufactured from high strength concrete with a 28 days characteristic strenth of 30 MPa to 40 MPa
- SGC Box Culverts come with 50mm diameter weep holes for drainage of the retained soil. This helps to prevent build up of hydrostatic pressures when combined with the butt jointed units. Hence, the relieved hydrostatic pressures are not taken into consideration in the design
- Soil parameters used in the design: Coefficient of the earth lateral pressure at rest = 0.5 bulk density of the soil = 19kN/M3
- SGC Box Culverts (not exceeding 1800mm width and 1800mm height) are designed to cater for backfill superimposed dead load not exceeding 2m depth (inclusive of pavement) plus 45 units of HB vehicle primary live loads
- SGC Box Culverts also comply with proof test load of 112.5 kN over an area of 320mm x 320mm placed at any position on the Culvert Lid. Testing procedue is in accordance to AS 1597 : Part 1 : 1974
